PAPA DAN'S PASTORAL DAYS

"Papa, would you share with me sometime about your life as a pastor?  Thanks." Zack

"Thanks, Zack for your question.  I have been thinking about what you asked and this blog and all that it will contain will be my answer.  I pray that it will be of help to you, and perhaps enjoyable and informative for whoever else should read the same." Papa

Zachary May 2014

As you can read, this blog is an attempt to answer my grandson's (Zachary Goldsmith) question as to whether I would share with him my life as a pastor.  I began as a pastoral intern sixty years ago this year, 1957, and assumed my first pastoral ministry the following year, 1958.  Zachary has asked that I share about my life as a pastor, because his goal is to become a youth pastor.  At the present time, he is in England serving as an intern at Capernwray Hall.  This fall he will be attending university and preparing himself for his future ministry.

While pondering what I would write to Zack re my  pastoral journey, I read where a ministerial student approached Dr. H. Edwin Young and asked about the role of a pastor.  "What does a pastor do?" asked the student.  When I read that it made me think that the ministerial student's question was similar to Zack's question as to what I had done.

Dr. Young wisely answered, "It's not what I do that counts.  It's who I am.  Being always comes before doing."  Pastor Young then talked about the personal traits and character qualities necessary for those who walk with and work for the Lord.

So instead of writing solely about my pastoral journey, as Zachary requested, I'm going to include my spiritual journey.  My spiritual journey and my pastoral journey are intertwined.  As Pastor Young told the young student, "Being always comes before doing."

Hopefully, I can share a little about who I am, as well as what I did.  So fasten your seat belts and get ready for the journey.
